Introduction

WEC is established under the chairmanship of Mr. Ram Bahadur Shrestha, a prominent Philanthropist who makes regular visits to the United States and many other countries through his own World Friendship and Peace Campaign program. Mr. Mandar Sikhar Bandhopadhya is a Computer Science teacher at a popular Bhanubhakta Memorial High School situated in Panipokhari, Kathmandu, and works as the Managing Director of WEC. Sujan Kumar Shrestha, the International Director, has a degree in Computer Information Systems and is currently freelancing with a development of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for small businesses that focus on sales of pets and pet products. The brainchild of the organization Suman K Shrestha is a resident of Bellingham, who has continuously supported and helped Nepalese students in the area.

The idea of WEC program initiated due to an extreme political instability of Nepal. Many Nepalese students, despite enrolled at various colleges and universities, were unable to attend classes which not only disrupted their academic careers but jeopardized their future. The team decided to work with American Colleges and Universities to obtain reduce tuition or scholarships to all deserving students of Nepal.

Our first approach was Whatcom Community College (WCC). WCC was looking to enroll more international students at their ever modern and huge campus at Bellingham, WA. Sujan happened to live there and approached Dr. Harold G. Heiner, the president. Kelly Kester, the Director of International Office, was ever enthusiastic about this new approach of recruitment and thus we came to an agreement that we shall enroll upto 5 Nepalese students at highly reduced tuition rate.
